Although the artistic element of fashion is a huge love of mine, i sometimes feel shame at being associated with elements of the industry. We all are well aware that fashion and clothing production is both, one of the top 5 worldwide polluters, and the industry with arguably the worst human rights record. although the finger of is easily pointed at “fast fashion” higher end brands are certainly not free from blame.
Currently the industry standards in Fashion are often exploitative. The fashion industry is seen as unsustainable, high profit for owners but very low wages and poor conditions for workers, interns are unpaid (working for billion dollar companies) and nepotistic rather then meritocratic. Many talented people avoid fashion as they cannot see a future for themselves in the way the industry is run.
I want to move fashion forwards in the key areas of transparency, sustainability and equality.
